New NT Advisory Group members, updated Gardens page…

We’re very pleased to welcome Scott Pullyblank, Curator Botany, Alice Springs Desert Park and Power and Water Corporation, NT as new members of the RIG Advisory Group.

Scott is a botanist and educator with extensive experience in parks and wildlife management. The Alice Springs Desert Park has a large bush plants farm and garden and the PowerPlants Program is an exciting initiative to support communities develop bush food and medicine garden initiatives on country. Power and Water service communities across most of the Northern Territory and have a dynamic Remote Operations team who RIG looks forward to working with.

Great new Health & Nutrition education resources available online

The Jimmy Little Foundation ThumbsUp! Good Tucker, Long Life! program, in conjunction with the Northern Territory Department of Education have developed and launched a great new series of educational resources for primary school teachers to assist them with health and nutrition education. Launched on August 15, the suite of resources is available online – and promises to be really useful for anyone involved in health and nutrition education for kids (and grown ups!).

National Food Plan – consultation extended

The date for written submissions in response to the Issues Paper for development of the National Food Plan has been extended from August 5 to September 2 – the advertised webcast is still planned and looks set to be held on August 18, 3:30pm. If you want to participate via the webcast you need to subscribe online at the DAFF site in advance.
