Shepherdson College, Galiwinku, was announced the Grand Prize winner at the EduGrow Awards Ceremony held at Yirrkala School on Monday 18 November. They will receive $2000 for the Grand Prize and a further $500 for winning their category!
The ceremony was attended by over 100 people, with excited students from Yirrkala and Gapuwiyak schools coming together with teachers and community members to celebrate the achievements of community and homelands schools to grow good food, good learning and good times.
Shepherdson College was the overall winner with an outstanding entry that scored strongly across all criteria. The judges commended them for their innovative use of permacultural techniques, water management and clever integration of the garden and garden based learning across all areas of the curriculum for students of different ages to support strong learning and student engagement.
First Prize winners in each of the Awards four categories were:
- Raymangirr Homelands School
- Shepherdson College
- Lamiwuy Homelands School
- Gapuwiyak Secondary School
Organisers of the EduGrow Awards warmly acknowledge and thank the staff, students and school community of Yirrkala School for kindly hosting the EduGrow Ceremony at their school.
