Centrefarm’s Growing to Grow model is an important development that deserves further support. We featured it in the last RIG News and it was one of the industry presentations at the Regional CDEP Best Practice workshop that RIG organised recently.Growing to Grow proposes a new model to provide overarching support to community farms and gardens. In response to a 2008 workshop Centrefarm successfully applied to FaHCSIA/ABA to further research interest, capacity and operational support requirements. This resulted in  two reports;

o  Scoping study for the development of Community Farms/Gardens in remote Aboriginal Communities in Central Australia (I Warchivker 2009)

o  Operational structures for the development of Community Farms/Gardens in remote Aboriginal Communities in Central Australia (I Warchivker 2009)

Further case studies are now proposed to broaden the research base required for a core-funding proposal. FaHCSIA is currently considering an application to fund the studies.

The reports are an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of garden projects in central Australia, and about key issues to planning more sustainable projects. They include great references too.
