Growing Communities – Queensland, supporting schools and communities to establish gardens

Here’s an interesting new group in South East Queensland who provide support to schools and communities to establish gardens using permaculture principles. This link came to us via our recent surveys and is another example of new programs underway to support school gardens. ┬áSee Growing Communities in our links section or direct:

From their website:

“Growing Communities is a community based cooperative enterprise working to promote the establishment, development and on-going support of schools and community gardens and city farms in South East Queensland and beyond. We envisage a thriving network of community gardens in schools and other communities throughout Queensland. We focus on community building and gardening in order to address the issues of sustainability, food security and nutrition. By working closely with a wide range of people, we seek to develop accessible solutions for them to tackle these big issues. We offer practical and transferable models of set-up, training, follow-through and evaluation that ensure the long-term sustainability of community gardens. Our work is based around permaculture and encouraging the development of sustainable agricultural practices in urban areas and promoting the cultural richness of food, plants and people.”
